Army Preparations

When evicted, each settler family will be allotted two shipping containers for their belongings. If any refuse to pack, civilian contractors will do so after the residents are evacuated. The containers will then be transported to large holding areas to be set up near IDF bases such as Sde Teiman in the Negev. Civilians will guard these containers until the settlers collect them.

By mid-March, new settlers had been prohibited from moving to any of the areas slated for evacuation. Before the pullout, the Gaza Strip will be declared a closed military zone. The IDF will seal it off on land while the Navy blockades it from the sea, thus preventing any unauthorized persons from entering.

To prevent disengagement opponents from reaching the Gaza Strip and hampering the evacuation, roadblocks are to be set up prior to pullout on major roads: those leading from the Negev to Gaza, and particularly the highways leading from Judea to Gaza.

Five concentric circles of police and soldiers will implement the disengagement itself. The fifth and outermost circle will be comprised of IDF and police forces whose job is to prevent infiltrators from reaching the settlements.

The fourth circle will consist of units to block protest reinforcements from reaching settlers.

The third circle will operate offensively. Palestinian areas will be temporarily reoccupied in order to prevent mortar attacks on settlements, and a curfew will be imposed in these areas throughout the plan's implementation.

While the army does not expect a full-out Palestinian attack, it is preparing for a worst-case scenario, since the disengagement is not being coordinated with the Palestinians.

The second circle will serve as a protective shield. Soldiers from Brig.-Gen. Aviv Kochavi's Gaza Division will use digital battlefield capabilities, as well as UAVs and multiple sensors to intercept any potential terrorist target. In the event of a Palestinian attack, the Air Force will also provide cover fire from helicopters.

The evictors - mostly police ‚ will make up the innermost circle. Due to a lack of female police officers, female soldiers will be included in the evicting forces. IDF Rabbinate members will accompany the evictors, in order to remove mezuzot (prayer scrolls) from all of the doorposts of the emptied buildings.
