Times of Change: Chapters on Urban Jerusalem
(© 2002 Heike Zaun-Goshen)

THE STORY BEHIND THE STORY

People never cease to be fascinated by Jerusalem. Since time immemorial, it has been a city holy to the three great monotheistic faiths. Today, it is also a home and work place for more than half a million people, as well as the Middle East's most controversial urban center. Yet between Jerusalem's ancient history and its contemporary conflicts, there are intervals of time which are less widely known but definitely intriguing.

As a readable work of non-fiction that does not dwell on the customary subjects of antiquity or on that of modern politics, Heike Zaun-Goshen's forthcoming book Times of Change - The Story Behind The Story sheds light on some of the enigmas of Jerusalem's more recent past, of its people, and of its evolution into a modern city. In addition to being a good read and to putting a fresh perspective on Jerusalem, the book also includes two chapters on Arab Jerusalem - a subject which is often neglected - and a preface by Teddy Kollek, who served as the city's mayor for almost 30 years.

As Jerusalem continues to make dramatic headlines, this new work examines the city from an entirely new angle and offer readers unique insights demonstrating that the comings and goings of past times largely account for what the city is today.

Over the coming months The Jerusalem Post Internet Edition will be presenting, in a condensed version, three of the seventeen chapters that make up this work, prior to a future print publication.
