YUVAL STEINITZ:
-------------------------------------------------------
The Oslo War

I think it is crystal clear that this war became possible through the crucial mistakes that were made by Israel both in the initial agreement as well as in the way that Israel conducted the process in the year that followed.

The idea to open the gates and to allow hostile Palestinian forces from Iraq, Tunisia, Yemen, and other Arab countries into the territories seems as irresponsible as possible.

But the idea to deliver territories to the Palestinians even before they truly recognize Israel's right to exist in its 1967 borders, and even before they gave up their demand to settle some of their people inside Israel proper, means that Israel invited the still-declared enemy into its territory.

In priciple, the Oslo agreement was intended to actualize the formula "peace for land" vis a vis the Palestinians; in fact, the process was according to a completely different formula: "land for war" or "land for terrorism."

Yuval Steinitz is a lawmaker for the Likud Party.
