Christmas Eve - Opening of the Great Jubilee
Solemn Entry of the Latin Patriarch to Bethlehem. Pontifical Midnight Mass in St. Catherine's Church with the participation of all members of the Assembly of Catholic Bishops.

Note: It is possible to participate in the arrival ceremony of the Latin Patriarch in Bethlehem in the early afternoon hours. A certain number of international choirs will perform in Manger Square starting at 8:00 p.m. These performances will be transmitted onto a large screen in St. Francis Millennium Hall at Terra Santa College in Bethlehem.
It will be very difficult to enter the Church of St. Catherine that evening. Those wishing to follow the Midnight Mass on a large screen in St Francis Millennium Hall must request admission tickets (free) from the General Secretariat for the Great Jubilee in Jerusalem, or from Terra Santa College in Bethlehem. The deadline for requesting tickets is 10/12/1999. Places are limited. Priests will be on hand to distribute Holy Communion to the participants.
All the rites of the Catholic Church will be represented at the Midnight Mass in Saint Catherine' and that the opening of the Jubilee Year will take place during that Mass.

10:00 p.m.: Prayer Vigil in the Basilica of Gethsemane to mark the end of the Second Millennium and the beginning of the Third. The service will be held in several languages.
11:15 p.m.: Beginning of a Candlelight procession towards the House of Abraham. During the procession, hymns will be sung in various languages.
Midnight: Erection of the Millennium Cross. Festive celebration.
Participants must register with the General Secretariat for the Great Jubilee, Notre Dame. The deadline for the registration is 15/12/1999.
