3000-1200 BCE - Bronze Age

More advanced Canaanite settlements emerge in the Jordan Valley, notably in Hazor, Bet Shean and Shechem in the north and Gezer, Jerusalem and Hebron in the central highlands. Each town is protected by a Baal, or resident god. Egyptian accounts from the 13th century BCE, meanwhile, speak of the existence of a nomadic population called the Hapiru in the area.
