| 135-324 CE - Early Mishnaic/Christian Period
In the wake of Jerusalem's destruction, the center of Jewish religious and cultural life shifts to northern and southern regions of Palestine. Side by side, early Christian communities develop and expand rapidly throughout the region. By the second century CE, increased emigration of Jews to Babylon has resulted in a gradual shift of centers of Jewish thought and study to Babylon. There, the major works of oral Jewish law are written and codified into the Talmud over a period of about 300 years.
