37. Sanford Weill
Bearing the news that the local banking world is going to be shaken
up, Citibank chairman and chief executive officer Sanford I. Weill came to
call, announcing that he will soon operate a full-service branch in Tel
Aviv, the first such branch of a foreign bank in the country. Then Bank of
Israel Governor Jacob Frenkel called the new branch one of the most
significant events in the financial history of Israel.
