They came, they swam, they left
In Israel's 52nd year, the rich, famous, and obscure came to visit. Here
are our 52 top distinguished tourists
52. David Trimble
Usually people cancel visits to Israel because of terrorist incidents
here, but in the case of First Minister David Trimble of Northern Ireland,
it was violence back home that preempted his visit. Trimble was supposed to
come get a degree from Ben-Gurion University alongside Roberto Benigni, but
the current Nobel peace laureate had to cancel following a terrorist attack
in his political constituency, which killed a Catholic woman and stirred up
tensions. Hopefully, next year, it will be peaceful in both Israel and
Northern Ireland.
