They came, they swam, they left
In Israel's 52nd year, the rich, famous, and obscure came to visit. Here are our 52 top distinguished tourists

12. Alif Gondoz
She first met Israelis during the worst moments of her life. Buried for four days under a pile of rubble after last year's Turkish earthquake, she was pulled to safety by an IDF rescue team, losing her foot in the process. But in February, 11-year-old Gondoz greeted Israelis under happier circumstances. Gondoz, a devout Moslem, was able to walk to al-Aksa mosque to pray, and was fitted with an artificial foot and received physical therapy, courtesy of the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee.
