| The WUJS Graduate Institute | |
| WUJS is unique in that it integrates different approachs to Judaism and discovering Israel into one programme. Each feature is of great significance and it is through the succesful combination of these elements, that the Institute creates a special atmosphere and an unparalled way of experiencing Israel. | |
| Ulpan | Hebrew Language Ulpan is the backbone of our programme. This is a 21 hour per week course. Students are examined upon applying and upon arrival at WUJS, and placed in the Hebrew class most to his/her level (Beginners, Intermediate, Advanced). In addition, WUJS creates opportunities for putting Hebrew to practical use outside the classroom. We provide additonal private and group tutoring sessions, organise informal Hebrew games and activites and coordinate meetings with Israelis. The Ulpan is demanding and students are expected to review the day's studies in order to consolidate their learning. |
| Jewish & Israel Studies | This program offers lectures in a wide range of studies including: Israeli Politics, Torah, Jewish Thought, Middle East, Jewish and Zionist History and Literature. Our academic staff includes excellent lecturers, many of whom travel to Arad from around the country. Courses meet weekly. Students have the opportunity to chose courses from a wide range of options. |
| Seminars | Seminars are offered as a weekly full day activity. This allows us to travel as a group in order to conduct in-depth studies of varying issues. Topics include: History of Jerusalem, Struggle for Independence, Jewish Spirituality, Archaeology, Israel Foreign Policy, Holocaust, Jewish Identity, Kibbutz, Ecology, etc... |
| Hikes & Field Trips |
Each semester we conduct two and four day field trips in the Judean Desert,
the Golan, the Galil and the Negev. This is our opportunity to walk the
land and discover spectacular places and scenery. We offer students the
option of challenging long hikes or shorter and easier walking routes. |
| Volunteering | Students volunteer in the local Arad community. Between semesters, students leave Arad for a three week volunteer placement in a programme of their choice. |
| Extra-Curricular Activities | There
is always lots to do at WUJS. Students plan events, parties, guest speakers,
etc... We offer Torah study, social evenings, sporting events and desert
walks. We celebrate Shabbat and festivals together in a warm community atmosphere. |
| Work Placement & Aliya Assistance | WUJS is committed to assisting students who wish to find employment in Israel. We provide job information and contacts, and give practical assistance, help prepare and distribute resumees and guide students through the process of seeking and securing employment. Many WUJS students consider making a permanent move to Israel, and WUJS guides and assists students through the Aliya process. |
| Arad Arts Project | The Arad Arts Project www.artsproject.org.il is a unique subsidised residency for accomplished Jewish artists from all genres of creative art, including sculptors, writers, painters, musicians and coposers and photographers. Artists are provided with excellent facilities (studio, dark room, etc..), and are given exposure to Israeli art and artists. Artists share premises with the WUJS Institute but also undergo separate seminars and workshops. |
