Mail to go abroad soon
TEL AVIV (May 14) -- Postal communications with foreign countries will be resumed shortly. One foreign country has agreed to clear mail to and from Palestine until the International Postal Union in Berne recognizes the Jewish postal authorities, and another country has offered the services of mail planes.
The Jewish Postmaster-General was introduced to the Press today by Mr. David Remez, Minister of Communications-designate in the Jewish Government. He is Mr. Zvi Friedberg, who was one of the chief engineers responsible for the laying of the Baghdad-London line and for many years served as Telecommunications Adviser in the Middle East.
Friedberg said he hoped to "bring the telephone into every house, like electricity or water."
National income put at LP. 100 M.
TEL AVIV (May 14) -- The national income of the Jewish State was estimated today by Mr. David Horowitz, of the Jewish Agency's Economic Department at LP. 100 million.
His estimate was based on the income in the last year of the Mandate. It was expected to rise only after a Jewish Administration.
Mr Horowitz pointed out that the war loan of five million amounted to only five percent of the Yishuv's income, whereas in Great Britain during the war, between 50 and 60 percent of the national income was allotted to defense spending.
